Nearby Brecon has all that you need, including The Bridge Cafe, a great spot to chill out, which also does bed and breakfast.

Character

The terrain is rideable in all seasons but beware in bad weather conditions.

The Gap takes you up to 600m above sea level and is very open and windswept. It is essential to take food, adequate clothing and tools before you attempt this route.

Technically, the going is mostly straightforward, with a tricky ravine halfway up the Gap road and some big rock steps on beginning the descent from the Gap itself.

Route

  1. From Pencilli take the bridleway along the canal towards Talybont.
  2. At the pub, turn onto the Taff Trail and skirt the hillside and follow the train into trees.
  3. Climb the trail to Bryniau Gleision, then descend slightly to the reservior. Climb now to the gap above Tor Glas, before descending to the small village at Neuadd.
  4. Follow the lane and the Three Rivers Ride (shown on OS mapping), before picking up the bridleway at Tynllwyh, which follows the river to Llanfrynach, and then back to the start by quiet lanes
