As a pro level mountain bike racer, with experience competing on the roads, too, cycling kit performance and comfort is crucial to me. It has to stop the elements in winter, allow me a good degree of movement, and give me that extra security that comes with high-performance and comfortable winter cycling clothing. Thankfully, working closely with many of the world’s top cycle teams in the pro peloton, Italian brand Alé understand this, and their latest Fondo & Clima Warm range of men’s winter cycle clothing carries forward their adherence to excellence. Testing Ale is always reassuring, reminding me what good cycle clothing should be.
Alé Pragma Jacket Fondo 3.0

In terms of a winter cycle clothing choice, the Pragma Jacket Fondo 3.0, together with the Clima Warm Plus 2.0 tights and the Klimatik shoe covers, create a well-balanced winter cycling setup designed for low temperatures and variable conditions. The weather takes no prisoners, either, and you have to be dedicated – which is why good kit is critical. There are days when it’s not safe to head out on the road, but there are also days when… by having the right equipment and clothing, it makes the difference.

For me, the Ale Pragma Fondo 3.0 jacket stands out through a successful combination of protection and breathability, offering enough warmth for winter rides without feeling bulky or restrictive. Well, yes that’s the technical description – but what does it feel like in real conditions and a cold winter in Romania? It actually does what it says; made from high-performance and multi-stretch fabrics, this well-cut jacket is close enough a fit to feel right, but with the benefit of allowing me freedom of movement on the bike. The fabric is not too heavy and not too light, ensuring that warmth and breathability is regulated, whilst the coating also beads a good degree of the moisture if required.

Yes, when the going gets tough, the innovative and technical membrane provide good wind protection and repels light rain, while the thermal interior helps maintain a stable body temperature even on descents or in exposed areas. All of this means that I remain smiling and comfort, helping me to maintain that all-important performance.

Finally, then, the fit of this stylish winter cycling jersey is sporty and performance-oriented, typical for Alé, sitting nicely on the bike without flapping at speed, and the eucalyptus color adds a modern and elegant look that is easy to match with other kit pieces. It has the usual 3 pockets at the back, allowing plenty of on-the-ride storage, a good high collar to keep the wind out and away from my neck, and a strong zip that seems as though it will last the test of time – always useful on winter clothing. Do I like it and did it work well – absolutely. And, it carries forward the Alé badge of quality and styling that should last you for a long time.

Alé Clima Warm Plus 2.0

The Alé Clima Warm Plus 2.0 winter bib tights perfectly complement the Pragma jacket, delivering a high level of thermal insulation for the lower body and making them ideal for long rides in cold weather – viola! When the temperatures drop here in Romania, that really is important to me; but these bibs did their job and kept me warm and comfortable.

We all know the importance of this, alongside the close but unrestricted fit, in this case due to Alé using high-quality multi-stretch fabric with good compression, and choosing the panelling in a body-mapping way. The fabric is as I mentioned, stretchy in the right way, yet still having reasonable compression. In use, the bibs feel relaxed and comfortable, adapting well to the riding position, and protecting efficiently against cold and wind without restricting movement. At the same time, the breathability is good enough to prevent overheating during sustained efforts. All good for a hard winter training ride, then!

When it comes to pads, whether you’re a pro rider or a weekend warrior, quality is the difference between a successful ride and pain. Fortunately, the material and structure used by Alé is up to expectations and I didn’t experience any issues. One thing I appreciate about all Alé pants are the braces. I have never tested a pair of pants that I didn’t like the braces on. The craftsmanship and the fact that they fit perfectly on the body are a real plus.

With the Clima Warm model, Alé managed to create perfect equipment for cold days, but he didn’t skimp on quality either, and you don’t feel like you’re overdressed.

Alé Klimatik shoe covers

The Alé Klimatik shoe covers are for me, an essential part of this winter setup, providing excellent protection against cold and moisture, and keeping the feet warm and dry even in wet or rainy conditions. In terms of the fit, they fit well over cycling shoes, feature a solid and well thought out and tough construction, and add an extra layer of safety thanks to reflective details. The zipper is always an area of weakness for overshoes. Alé have thought about this and spent time selecting a tough zipper, which works will with the stretch waterproof fabric.

Overall, this latest Alé kit is an excellent choice for those cyclists who train or ride long distances in winter. It offers you that all-important balance between comfort, protection, and a premium look, without major compromises in performance.

Is it something that I would choose myself – absolutely, and the remainder of this winter will only clarify this for me.

Style and performance for those cooler days

Over the many years that I’ve been testing and reviewing cycle clothing; there are only a few items that have stayed in my mind as being truly exceptional. When the Alé Maglia Quick jersey arrived some time ago, its style and quality immediately struck me and I was itching to get out on the road. However, significant health issues arose and delayed my cycling by many months; by which time the high temperatures had arrived and short sleeves were the order of the day.

Recently though, the summer sun had dipped away behind clouds for a few days, and rather than resort to uncomfortable arm warmers, it was the perfect moment to wear the Alé Maglia Quick jersey – result. Expanding on my initial impressions of the jersey; it’s simply a stylishly modern, well designed and lightweight mid-season cycling jersey – long sleeved. The jersey is super comfortable for those cooler overcast days, thanks to the well thought out fabric choices and the high-quality Italian finishing. I tend to wear my jersey close to the skin in summer, and the Alé Maglia Quick is exceptionally comfortable against the body, and fits to form, due to the body mapping cut, the anatomical design and the high-quality multi-directional fabrics.

Less sweat, more comfort!

Alé have chosen world-leading fabric technology, QuickDry Frame® for their fabric on this state-of-the-art mid-season cycling jersey. It works in unison with their own renowned fabrics, by applying a precise functional grid to the fabric, allowing excess moisture produced by the body during activity, to be channelled through a hydrophilic process, increasing the level of comfort by keeping you drier on the inside. Ideal then for a cooler, overcast summer day, where I’d hopefully be working hard on the bike!

The choice of fabrics to the front are rear of the jersey are as you’d expect from Alé, with a slightly heavier fabric to combat the wind, and a light fabric to the back. It’s the arms however, that really draw your attention. Alé have kept a very light – and very narrow strip of super-light and super wicking, stretch fabric on the underside of the arms. However, the majority of the long sleeves are constructed of a unique mesh-like fabric, that clings neatly to your arms and moves freely with them, whilst allowing air in and moisture out. It also adds to the super-stylish look of the jersey; contrasting with the soft colour tones and sweeping geometric design for the body of the jersey.

Yes, the whole look and feel of this thoroughly modern and technical cycling jersey makes it a ’must have’ piece of cycling clothing for riders looking for the very best quality and performance, at the right price point.

Italian quality for comfort and longevity

The double cuffs on the jersey, sweep neatly across the wrists, and the silicon waist works in unison with the stretch fabric to keep things in place. It has the usual 3 rear pockets, which hold items in and don’t over-stretch and sag. There’s also a useful zipped pocket at the rear, which is easy to access – unlike some. One aspect of all Alé clothing that I like, is the high-quality zipper. There’s nothing worse than paying out for a high-end branded cycle jersey, only for them to fit a cheap zip which simply breaks or malfunctions too soon. Not so with Alé, who ensure that Italian style and quality comes as standard!

On the bike, despite it being summer and at the end of July, heading into August; this Alé Maglia Quick jersey proved itself the ideal jersey choice for the cooler temperatures as I cycled the steep Yorkshire Dales roads, into the hills.

I’m now looking forward to also wearing it regularly in its natural mid-season environment this forthcoming autumn. Ultimately, it’s already a favourite of mine and a definite recommendation.

So, that’s probably the reason why they put love into their continual search for innovative materials, and into the care of every little detail. The Alé cycling clothing is made with a passion and with high-performance cycling in mind, from the finest available fabrics and high-quality materials. It’s incorrect to think that Lycra is Lycra. Ultimately, it comes in a whole spectrum of qualities. Over the years, in continuous tests and trials to keep improving, this leading Italian brand have sought to keep their cycle clothing relevant, and their latest Pragma cycle jersey and Master 2.0 bib shorts are an excellent example of their adherence to excellence. The result is Alé garments that are a true expression of tailoring and Italian quality.

Thanks to Pedalnorth.com, I’ve recently had the chance to test out these new items from the latest Alé range, and I have to say, they’ve been impressive. As a pro elite mountain bike rider, my clothing has to perform, and both the Pragma Color Block jersey, and the Master 2.0 bibs didn’t let me down.

Quality materials & style in perfect harmony

The most important thing about cycling jersey, and bib shorts is the quality of the materials used, and how they’re cut. The clothing has to fit well, move with you, be hard-wearing and relate to the conditions of a long and hard bike ride. Detail is important, and Alé know this when they design a cycling jersey. The Pragma Color Block jersey is a close fitting, race-ready jersey, with high breathability, especially under the arms and on the back; and, this lightweight jersey also has great UV protection, meaning that’s it’s ready to ride in the sun.

Whilst the jersey is close fitting, the material is multi-directional, with strong stretch properties, meaning that you maintain free and unrestricted movement. On the bike, I can simply concentrate on riding, whilst the jersey does its job as a second skin. In terms of all-important styling too; what did Teodora say when she saw me dressed like this?

“That’s it—you finally look like a cool cyclist!”

So yeah, besides the fact that the fabric, fit, and attention to detail make the outfit super comfortable, it definitely doesn’t hurt that it makes you look good on the bike too.

The short answer is that bibs are important

What’s the first thing I care about as a cyclist? The quality of the chamois in the bib shorts. It’s as important to a cyclist as tuna is to a cat – and that’s critical! If there’s one secret to surviving long training sessions and full days in the saddle, it’s this: happy rides start with a happy backside. Thankfully, Alé knows this, and support – literally- many of the world’s leading teams, and use only the finest chamois pads. They describe these high-performance shorts as ‘The go-to shorts for comfort, […] engineered to deliver the ultimate fit and functionality for every rider, whatever the occasion,’ and I have to agree. They’re close fitting, stable and have the necessary compression – alongside that all-important, high-quality chamois. In this case, Alé have used their in-house 4H chamois.

The 4H chamois offers luxurious comfort for medium distance rides. Many riders don’t check the chamois and what it is actually designed for – you should do so. In this case, the pad was ideal for fun rides and mixed training for me. The 4H pad is constructed from elastic micro-fibre with padding strategically positioned in the contact points and features a central relief channel to avoid pressure on the nerve endings. High density 90 kg/cm2 padding is used in the ischiatic and perineal areas where it is needed most. This pad combines comfort, flexibility, wicking and breathability to ensure the utmost protection against the stresses of the road.

Alongside the wide, soft and strong, high-quality straps, and the laser cut legs, these shorts have been comfortable and easy to wear on my training rides – and that’s an important issue, as well as a thumbs up!

Testing time on the bike can be comfortable

I’m always happy to try out and test high-quality gear—and Alé definitely proves to be a reliable partner when it comes to that. The color and styling on both of these products have been well thought out and are modern and stylish. Biehler is one of those cycling brands that are simply reliable. Their clothing range is of the highest quality and made with the very best fabrics, using their vast experience from the pro riders that Biehler work with.

The Supreme jersey is testament to their adherence to design and performance. It’s a race fit cut and uses the very best fabrics to keep it light and yet comfortable. As a summer jersey, Biehler have thought in some detail too, about the necessity to protect your skin, and the fabric is designed to withstand UV 50+. With the knowledge that we have these days regarding skin cancer, it’s a very welcome thought – well done Biehler.

Working hard on a bike does of course produce the body’s own moisture, which Biehler have thankfully also thought about. The unique structure of the antibacterial refined, light Microfresh material used on the front of the jersey guarantees excellent breathability and ensures that moisture is quickly wicked away to the outside to avoid heat build-up. It’s a lightweight mesh style fabric that is soft and very comfortable. The back of the jersey and the sleeves are a soft and slightly heavier fabric, all with 4 way stretch, so that it fits perfectly, making you comfortable but aero.

The waist has a very wide and very strong terraband elasticated hem, which truly is superb – even supreme, making sure that it sits comfortably and doesn’t move. The sleeves are finished with the same material, merged with half fabric, cut so that it sits softly on the arms. The collar is low cut for a modern and sporty look, and the 3 rear pockets are strong and well cut, allowing easy access. I love the soft feel of the fabric too. I’m terms of design, the modern Camou style comes in a variety of colours and looks amazing. To the front is the usual full length quality zipper and it’s all presented with a super modern design to keep you looking kind of stylish.

In use the jersey has been excellent excellent in all conditions, and dried out quickly when we were caught in rain.Both Beu and I have tested the jersey – not the same one – Biehler kindly sent two

When slightly damp it remained comfortable and well fitted and didn’t detract from performance. What our our overall thoughts then; both Beau and I think that this is a high quality and long lasting performance jersey that you’ll want to wear often. In fact, if Heineken made cycling jerseys, it would definitely look and perform like this.

Prendas describe this cycle clothing as midseason, however, it’s far more than that, due not only to global warming, but also due to the quality of the fabrics used. Yes, we’ve been using this and testing it during autumn, but we’ll also be keeping it out during those winter days when the sun still shows itself, and also when we want to ride hard.

Winter Rides Require Good Kit

One of my own favourite rides here in Yorkshire, takes in the locally famous ‘Mickley Bank’ and the climb up Warthermarske from Masham and Swinton Castle. It’s a ride where you can stop off for a coffee at Johnny Baghdad’s cafe in Masham’s historic market place, as the weekend cyclists gather from all around. It’s imperative to have kit that performs well on rides like this, out into the isolated country roads, and which then also looks stylish at the obligatory coffee stop, and this Prendas CC long sleeved jersey and bib tights are excellent. Add to this, their amazing price point for the quality, and we’d go as far as saying that you’d be hard-pushed to find anything better in that range.

Prendas CC LS Jersey

The jersey is a race cut design, and one area that does need consideration is their sizing. It’s truly cut to Italian size options, meaning that you’ll need to go up a size from your normal choices, if you want the same fit. Once you’ve overcome that hurdle, then the race fit design is superb, with a warm Roubaix multidirectional fabric that wraps you in comfort and allows good freedom of movement. One particularly good aspect of close fitting but having good freedom of movement, is that on rides like the Mickley Bank and Warthermarske circuit, you can simply concentrate on standing up and powering away, as you keep on ascending.

The jersey also has a nice, high quality and well designed, wide cut elasticated and perforated fabric band at the front waist area, holding things in place. For the price point, this is a real bonus, usually only found on higher priced garments. It works so much better and looks so much more stylish than a simple fabric and silicon banded waist. The cuffs are wide cut and strong, and there’s also a high cut collar, which keep the wind at bay. The panelling design of the jersey and the excellent multidirectional stretch means that it fits to form and feels great when riding. It’s truly unrestricting and simply sits nicely against the body, making you feel like you want to ride. Best of all, the 3 rear pockets are strong and deep, keeping things from moving around as you work hard; and there’s a waterproof zipped pocket too for your cash and keys.

Prendas CC Bib Tights

Moving on to the matching bib tights, what we look for at this time of year, and in these tough Dales rides, is a bib tight that fits like a second skin, doesn’t sag and has a reasonable compression. Then it has to be finished off with good, wide fabric straps and a mesh upper. Prendas have ensured that their Prendas CC tights are made from Miti Stelvio, which is internally fleeced and fast wicking to keep you warm and reasonably dry whatever the weather. They’re not waterproof, but they do actually help to wick your own moisture away from you on tough rides.

Their popular Pro Race chamois ensures comfort over even the longest of rides, and it performed really well on our test routes, especially the climbs, making these bib tights perfect to help keep you warm and comfortable the road, throughout the cold winter months. The tights are finished off with good ankle zips, asking them easy to slip on and off, and they have adequate compression. Best of all, they actually stay in place, like a warm second skin, which is always good for race ready winter tights.

The design of both the Prendas CC jersey and bibs tights is spot on too, being a stylish navy blue, with coloured horizontal stripes to reflect the three grand tours ( pink, yellow, red). It’s all stylishly done and really makes these a very chic and modern choice for winter riding.

Quality & Style can be Affordable

As I drop down the tight twisting lanes from the Yorkshire Dales, and back into historic Ripon, I’m really pleased with the Prendas cold weather clothing, and pleasantly surprised at the very high quality in fabrics and finishing at this price point. SIGR is a relatively unknown cycling clothing brand here in the U.K.. However, it’s a brand that’s quickly establishing itself as a quality brand with unique designs. Their latest short sleeved jersey, the Fjällbäck is typical of the brands messages within their designs, of being close to and adherence to principles that support the natural world. Not only is the jersey made from 100% recycled materials, the design itself is made to celebrate the flowing rivers of Sweden.

It’s a special edition cycling jersey whose pattern is inspired by the smooth, flowing curves of the pure mountain streams and river deltas that grace the Swedish wilderness. The streams meander lazily across the wide river valleys, often dividing, before soon meeting up again to continue their inexorable flow towards the coast hundreds and sometimes thousands of kilometres away – the words of SIGR, not me, but I have to admit that it’s a bright and vibrant design. I definitely like it. The light blue flowing water design against the vibrant red is really kind of cool, and certainly unique.

The material is also soft and very comfortable all day long, due to the excellent sizing. I’ve been using a medium jersey and it’s more generous than many brands.

As I mentioned, this jersey is made from 100% Italian/Spanish-made fabric created from recycled plastic and is Bluesign® certified, which means it was sustainably and safely produced at all stages of production. It’s a lightweight jersey and has mesh ventilation panels on the sides to help air flow and to allow your body to breathe. Riding is tough here in the Yorkshire Dales, and the jersey breathes well, whilst keeping the wind at bay too, with a reasonably high collar. The material has UV sun protection built into the fabric, and there are three back pockets and a zipped pocket for carry items.

Best of all, the zips are all top quality, including the full length jersey zip. I particularly like the slim cut and tight sleeves, with the wide hem and silicon to keep things in place. Viola – everything that you need in a quality finish.

The multidirectional stretch of the fabric also means that movement is free and comfortable, and the jersey retains its shape. All good points when you’re investing in a jersey. SIGR want to provide cyclists with excellent performance and quality, and they want to protect and highlight our environment – we like that. And we like their new Fjällbäck short sleeved jersey – so go buy one and reflect the nature that we all love.

Rosti named their Gera mountain bike jersey after ‘gravel’, as it’s only right that you feel the crunch of it under your mountain bike wheels as you head from the trees, down the trail and through the forded river. And, in respect of Rosti, when testing it here in the Yorkshire Dales, I took myself on trail rides that followed this nature inspired design, that follows the flow of the trail.

Lightweight & Slim, Relaxed Fit

It’s a lightweight and very breathable short sleeved jersey, cut in a slim and relaxed style, which I like. Too often, mountain bike jerseys can be too baggy, and for general cross country and trail riding, something relaxed and slim is ideal. The fit is very comfortable across the shoulders, and the high quality material hangs softly. It has a low V collar to the font, which helps to keep you cool on the trail and looks relaxed too. Best of all, fora all that it is a lightweight material, it does keep a degree of wind out, due to the high quality weave.

A Design in tune with Nature

As with all Rosti clothing, it’s not just the reflective natural design that stands out, evoking the journey through the hills. The finish is also top draw, and this is a jersey that’s comfortable to wear, strong and yet super light and extremely well finished. It just kind of feels nice when you’re riding, and it looks good too – and that has to be a worthy compliment. The soft natural colours that fall across the fabric look kind of nice, and it’s an easy jersey on the eye. Thankfully too, I even managed to match it with several other items from my biking wardrobe – because even on the trails, you have to look and feel good . Yes, we like this simply stylish design for the trails from Rosti, and it’ll be a firm favourite here in the Pedalnorth wardrobe for some time.

There are certain brands within cycling that you instinctively know produce great quality clothing. They literally stake their very valuable and well earned reputations on the quality of their performance cycling gear – and Rosti from the north of Italy are one such brand. So, when the package arrived in late winter, containing their latest design for spring 2022, I smiled widely.

Rosti HYPNO Summer Jersey

Their HYPNO jersey carries the usual Rosti design credentials, and is like wearing a piece of modern art on fabric. Concentric circles cover the jersey in a hypnotic pattern, with a white background, so that taken as whole, the finished design is modern and chic and yet harps back to those heady days of the hip 1960s. If you’re looking for unique performance clothing, then Rosti is definitely the brand for you. I simply love their artwork. Anyway, to more technical things; how does the jersey stack up in terms of its technicity and performance.

On initial inspection, Rosti have used at least 4 different fabric types on the various parts of the jersey. In doing so, they’ve thought in detail about the body part being covered and how it both performs on the bike and how it needs protecting. For example, there’s a reasonably lightweight fabric chosen for the front, which is lightly perforated to aid air flow. However, the fabric weave and perforations are such that they still keep the cold winds at bay. Yes, it’s a light fabric, but this is a performance jersey. The high quality fabric is chosen to both keep winds out and allow your body to breath. The fabric chosen for the back of the jersey is lighter still, and has a more defined perforation, allowing your sweaty back to breath easily when riding. Then, down the sides of the jersey, Rosti have used a mesh style weave, super light and strong, allowing that extra air flow that hard working arm pits require.

The sleeved are made from a strong 4 way stretch lycra, with that necessary touch of compression. Overall, all of the panels on this stylish jersey are cut to form fit, using high quality multidirectional technical fabrics, meaning that you look and feel great wearing it. The jersey is finished off with a high cut collar, strong and good quality concealed zipper, and a wide elasticated and silicon gripper waist. The 3 rear pockets are strong and stretchy, and Rosti have added that necessary zipped pocket for keys.

Okay, that’s the design and technical detail out of the way, so let’s talk about the overall finishing. One of the great things about Rosti is their quality, and when you turn this jersey inside out, the seams and the stitching is truly superb. It looks like a high quality garment ought to look; it’s balanced, elegant, well thought out and is a jersey that works in harmony with your body. Add to this, the design and fabric technicity and you’ve got a great jersey. On the road it’s been super comfortable, close fitting and stylish, allowing free movement and with excellent airflow, meaning that I’ve been able to ride hard and not end up feeling sweaty and uncomfortable. Now it’s time to look at the shorts.

Rosti Pro 1 Bib Shorts

One aspect of Rosti bib shorts that I really like are the straps. There’s not fiddly and ultra thin and tight fabric straps, often found with other brands. These Rosti Duotone mesh braces are well thought out, made from high quality and strong, wide cut fabric and they sit on your shoulders softly and easily, leaving you feeling just right. They look like quality straps ought to look, they feel like quality straps ought to feel and they certainly are performance orientated and made to be completely comfortable. They’re strong and stretchy and they make you feel like a cyclist ought to feel when wrapped in lycra. And, Rosti have ensured this high quality Duotone fabric is cut to merge into the lower black fabric, with the open back strapping and lower back mesh giving the opportunity for excellent breathability.

The lower short areas are made from the Rosti Thunderbike fabric: 80% Polyammide and 20% Elastane, and are panelled to maximise fit, bonded and stitched together to be ergonomic and form fitting, due to the multi-directional fabric. The cut is designed for performance, meaning that the fabric has a reasonable compression feel to them too. Thunderbike fabric is a rubber polymer; more precisely, a fabric with high density bonds that reinforce its structure. These are a very modern and stylish shorts, and the simple black design means that they easily go with any of the jerseys from the Rosti range. At the thigh, Rosti have used a clean cut finish with an internal silicon gripper, keeping the look modern and maximising the performance feel of the shorts. In use they’re super comfortable on both long and mid-range rides, due to the Rosti Bormio® pad with recycled yarns, which is designed as being suitable for long distances and with a quick-drying 3D structure. It’s certainly a very comfortable pad on long and hilly days in the saddle.

Branding is minimal on the shorts, keeping them modern and stylish. When worn together with the new design Rosti HYPNO jersey, you’ll be well clothed in high quality performance cycling wear for spring and summer.

Rosti Shape Summer Gloves

We finished the outfit off with the Rosti Shape summer gloves. It’s a close fitting performance glove, made from BOOST® strong multi-directional fabric, with excellent padding on the palms. The gloves certainly provide great comfort all day long, due to the softness and strength of the fabric. The inner fabric of the SHAPE gloves is adherent, the thicker palm padding guarantees better protection of the palm of the hand nerves.

The gloves have tabs to help pull them on and off – often a tricky aspect of close fitting summer gloves. The Rosti Logos are embossed but kept subtle and chic, so that these stylish gloves go with any outfit – always a bonus for style conscious riders. The SHAPE gloves also are available in shades of Burgundy red and Forest green alongside the more basic black and white, if you want to add some colour.

VEGA HYPNO Summer Socks

Listen, I know that some people have a foot fetish – that’s their thing and I’m fine with that. I don’t, but I do have a thing for good socks. Coming from a mountain background, I know the value of looking after your feet. After all, it’s the hardest working part of your body and it deserves the best – whether that be custom fitted shoes or the very best socks. And this is truly relevant here, because for a general cycle clothing brand, the latest range of socks from Rosti is truly awesome. They’re ultra high quality and performance, and so well made. Yes, I know that I’ve mentioned the Rosti design ethos before, but these latest socks from this growing Italian brand are almost works of art themselves.

By using the multi-directional lycra fabric on the leg of the sock, Rosti achieve several things. From a performance perspective, the socks are soft, very light and extremely aerodynamic. The upper sock adheres perfectly to the ankle and calf without any rubber band, simply using the fabric and small silicon grippers at the internal edge, promoting blood circulation and minimizing friction with the air. The special fabric is made of 79% polyester and 21% elastane, and keeps the ankle dry and fresh too. Best of all, it feels superb on and stays neatly in place, giving you a gentle compression feel. And, because it’s a lycra based fabric, Rosti can print their awesome designs directly onto the fabric, meaning that you look chic and stylish.

Looking at the lower parts of the sock: the heel, gusset, instep, sole and toe, are skilfully merged into the upper lycra, whilst themselves being a standard woven fabric, designed with specific weaves in the various areas of the foot. There’s good reinforcement on the heel and toe, a string ankle cycle and sole, and a very breathable weave pattern across the bridge and instep areas. It’s certainly a high quality sock, well made and will last a long time. Feet do so much work for the cyclist and socks are not simply an afterthought. Rosti know this and have produced a truly superb summer sock for cyclists, and one that also carries the brand design ethos with pride.

Summary

It’s not often that I’m completely blown away with the quality, design and performance of a brands new cycling clothing. However, everything about this HYPNO outfit from Italian brand Rosti is superb. The level of detail and finishing is excellent, the performance on the bike is super comfortable and form fitting, meaning that you as the cyclist can simply concentrate on the ride. There’s a uniqueness about Rosti cycling clothing, and as we’re all unique too, why not wrap yourself in Italian styling this spring and summer, and take a look yourself at Rosti. The quality of fabrics, finishing and design certainly won’t disappoint and you’ll benefit from the added performance that this modern brand sews into every garment.
