Ironman Turkey 70.3 – 2024

There’s nothing quite like the thrill of competition and the camaraderie of teamwork, especially when shared in a breath-taking location. This was the essence of our experience at Ironman Turkey 70.3 in Belek, where we came together as a relay team to face the challenges of the race.

Our relay team composed of Nastya Vasyeva (swimmer), myself, Nadezhda Pavlova (cyclist), and Maria Malisheva (runner), were ready for the adventure that lay ahead. Our journey to Belek was a last-minute decision, initiated by Nastya’s invitation about a month before the race. Initially, we had our sights set on the Barcelona Triathlon Challenge , but Nastya’s partner and her friends decided to compete in Turkey, and we quickly shifted our plans.

The stunning Mediterranean coast, the vibrant atmosphere and Turkish hospitality made it an easy choice. And it was a great decision, as on the race day in Barcelona the weather condition was awful, with flooding, strong winds, and even elimination of the swim course. The weather forced it to transform the event format into a duathlon, consisting of just a bike and run.

On race day, everything fell into place perfectly, and we were excited for the fun day ahead. Nastya kicked off the race with her swim leg. Despite slightly rough waters, she completed the 1.9 km swim two loops with an Australian exit in an impressive 29 minutes. After passing the timing chip to me, I jumped on my bike. The bike course was flat, consisting of two loops totalling 90 km, and I finished my segment in 2 hours and 21 minutes.

Though I didn’t train much, I felt that I still have some strength in my legs from the summer rides in the Dolomites and Pyrenees, (I destroyed my Trek Bike during la Reine female only Granfondo in Gstaad, Switzerland, and hadn’t been putting in many miles after) but the thrill of the race kept me motivated. As I wrapped up my biking leg, Masha was ready to take on the run.

The run course was absolutely beautiful, leading through the “Land of Legends” and alongside a picturesque Venetian channel. We cheered for fellow competitors while keeping track of Masha on the Ironman app. In a funny twist, we nearly missed her at the finish line, but she quickly joined us for a second crossing together and we ran the red carpet moment together raising our hands for the perfect finish photo! Our total time was 4:22 minutes, earning us first place among the female relay teams and surpassing the first women in the individual timing by just a second! Post-race, we celebrated our victory at a beautiful Greek restaurant, enjoying pitas, Greek salads, and traditional dances with the plates breaking.

We stayed at the Gloria Sports Arena https://www.gloriasportsarena.com.tr, where champions train, could not be a better choice for athletes. The hotel has both indoor and outdoor pools, a well-equipped gym, healthy and delicious food ( it was challenging not to gain weight especially with the delicious Turkey delights, pistachio baklava and rose water lokum), and views of the running track -a paradise! We also enjoyed the unique experience of a crío sauna for recovery at -108 degrees! (I´m from Siberia and it was easy for me to stay the maximum time allowed for 3 minutes) challenge.

Reflecting on the event, I found the organization of the race to be significantly improved compared to my first experience in 2014. Celebrating the 10 anniversary of the race made it even more special. Ironman Turkey 70.3 was an unforgettable experience filled with teamwork, fun, and triumph. I wholeheartedly recommend this race to anyone seeking a rewarding triathlon challenge.

Cyclists wants to look stylish and to be confident while riding, and DS PRO has really captured this into their full range of performance outfits, designed just for women. And, as women we want and we deserve to be stylish Having examined the new DS Pro Floweral Outlines one-piece Cycling suit when it arrived, it was soon time to actually put it on and get out riding into the French Maritime Alps.

The new Cycling suit has a beautiful flower design on a fully black squared polyester material. It has a very classy and elegant design, which is fully compatible with the brand image – elegance and style, with performance sewn in. The sides are slightly more breathable, having a mesh type fabric to aid wicking, moisture control and breathability. It reduces perspiration during the hot summer months, keeping you feel fresh and feminine. The panels are well cut and the material is 4 way stretch high quality fabrics, meaning that movement is free and unrestricted. The suit also fits my body in a complimentary way, allowing me to show how great I feel.

This latest DS Pro one-piece also differs slightly from TriSuits that I’ve tested, as it has a slightly more comfortable padding. That’s because it’s not a TriSuit, it’s a cycling suit. The brand have used their expertise in one-piece design to bring this awesome garment to pure cyclists. Typically, a one-piece can bring some unfortunate butt pain when the cycling part of the Tri is more than 3h; however, this certainly and thankfully isn’t the case for this cycling specific model. This is a smart, well thought out and a very comfortable design, with excellent finishing and all aspects of rider comfort dealt with.

Initial impressions are more than favourable, and I can’t wait to try this cycling suit in a combined swim and ride this summer, assuming COVID doesn’t get in the way again. Having a clothing brand out there, that gives us ladies the very best of performance fabric technology, whilst also allowing us to be as stylish as we feel is important. DS Pro have yet again achieved this with their latest one-piece suit for cyclists, and I feel stylish and free when using this great garment that’s filled with style.

Pedalnorth.com triathlon editor and independent tri coach Nadezhda Pavlova is an inspiring and talented athlete, bringing a sense of simplicity and fun to training. In this article, Nadezhda talks about missing a training session and advises you on the best way to address your schedule gap.

Missed a workout? Don’t double it up to make up!

Consistency is a key in triathlon training, but sometimes, we all miss a workout and can’t follow the training plan due to illness, family circumstances, business trips. The most common mistake triathletes make is trying to squeeze two workouts in the next day -the missed one and the scheduled one. Double it up to make up is not the best strategy. Nothing will happen if you missed one day, but you can do more damage if you do two training sessions the next day trying to catch up. Triathlon training advice should be sensible and based on schedules that don’t harm your overall performance.

Working out more in a few days can lead to a potential breakdown, which results in a lot of stress, or even worse, burnout, and consequently, loss of training time! It’s not a big deal to miss a couple of workouts if it doesn’t happen very often. Be sensible with your triathlon training advice and stick to the plan.

A long break from training also can happen. If you missed more than a week, you have to step back into training and begin all over again. The lost of training time will lead to fitness loss and will result in less race readiness and performance. Unfortunately, you can’t miss workouts and have the same fitness level as if you don’t miss. This is how training works. How to best resolve the issue of missing workouts depends on many variables: what type of workout you missed, where you are in your training plan, and how much training you missed. Workouts in training plans are scheduled in particular order to achieve high-performing racing.

Some examples are: recovery from key training sessions, intentionally creating accumulated fatigue, mental recovery, progressive training load, specificity, working on your limited sports, working around an athlete’s personal life. I always encourage reaching out to your coach to implement the best strategy to keep you working toward your goals, keep you healthy, injury-free and engaged you in the sport over the long-term. Your coach will speak with you and if necessary, help to adjust your triathlon training advice and plan, enabling you to catch up at the right pace.

Working with your coach is always the best way forward, bringing expert and independent thinking to your triathlon training process. There’ll always be occasions when you simply cannot stick to the schedule… and the truth is that this is real life. Focus in the longer term is the goal, so remember – it’s a triathlon, not a sprint

Triathletes are warriors, we are strong, but we are vain as well. We like style if we’re to give our best – we want to also look our best!

Our strength, dedication and organization start from the choice of each product, every clothing and accessory! It’s all very carefully chosen, as we’re going to have to work hard, so the fit and the feel is absolutely critical. During the training we test everything we will use on the day of the race, and we will choose what we like the most, which makes us more comfortable and efficient. This is very important not to have problems during the race. Testing Rosti has been a joy, as it feels just right.

The pattern influences the design of the body and I loved it, the light and firm fabric made me comfortable and confident, another quality is to dry quickly after getting out of the swim and moving to the bike. The cut of the one piece suit is excellent, with superb multi-panelling cuts, skilfully sewn together to ensure the garment fits and clings to the body. After all, it has to fit under a wet-suit, and rubbing is out of the question.

The material used is strong and stretchy, adding to the fit, and making me feel cool and confident…and stylish. The pad was excellent and more than adequate on the bike, and didn’t feel awkward in the other two disciplines either. I really loved this great design from Italy, and I’m pretty sure that my Rosti kit is perfect for my upcoming triathlon tests too . I’m sure of my best choice – Rosti
