Presca Sportswear Custom Kits
by Larisa Chinces & Robert Thorpe
Last year we worked closely with eco-aware and environmentally conscious brand, Presca Sportswear to promote what they do to improve how cycling clothing is made and it’s impact on the environment, and also to deliver a Pedalnorth editorial team kit for 2021/22. Presca was a brand that caught our attention due to their strict adherence to ethical principles at all levels of their organisation and production. All of the clothing is made from recycled fabrics, and they’re constantly working with others to drive forward their commitment to the environment. Yes, it’s inspiring, which is why we’re proud to wear their custom designed kit with our logo on. Riders using the Pedalnorth kit range from elite triathlete Beau Smith, international duathlete Christie Byrne, Larisa Chinces in Europe and of course yours truly – a middle aged man in lycra, still dreaming. And, considering that we’ve all been involved in competitive sports for a combined period of over 80 years – we started young 😉 – we’ve got a whole wealth of experience of good and bad kit. So, what’s the Presca custom kit like then.
Starting with the short sleeved jersey, it’s a super garment and performs really well in all conditions. The fabric is really soft, really strong and multidirectional, meaning that it fits closely and allows ease of movement and retains its shape. Presca use various fabric weights for different areas, making sure that chilled winds are kept at bay and that the body can breathe as you work hard. If we were designing again, I’d maybe go for a very light mesh weave on the sides, to improve air flow even more, but it’s a small and quite personal choice. Ultimately, the fabrics used are superb and wick very well, and also dry quickly too. The arms use a very light weave of fabric and are trimmed by laser cut edges and a silicon strip on the inner of the fabric, keeping things in place. They’re very close fitting and ultra comfortable. We chose a high collar to keep the wind at bay, and a small zipped pocket for valuables too, in addition to the excellent deep pockets at the rear.
The design is stylish and modern – thanks Jacob – and printing and finishing is exceptional. It’s finished off at the waist with a silicon gripper, and on the long sleeved jersey, with a wider terraband style of fabric edging, which I really like. Wearing this at home and abroad and in completions, the guys all love the jersey and love the modern look and feel on the bike.
In terms of the bib shorts, they are truly awesome. This is an easy area for brands to get drastically wrong, yet Presca have got it dramatically right. The pad is layered and slim, working in the right places, and soaks up moisture well. It’s comfortable on long and short rides. They’re a multi-panelled short with lots of compression, meaning that they fit neatly and closely and help the legs to keep pumping when needed. The side panels have a super light and super strong fabric, helping you to stay cool, with stronger fabrics used on harder wearing areas. The uppers are a lightweight mesh fabric, with string bib straps. Movement on the bike, on really hot days and really wet days is easy, as the fabric stays close to the body, doesn’t rub and feels like a second skin.
I really do like the style of the Presca kit that we designed for 2022. The Pedalnorth brand main colour is light blue, going from a lighter to darker tone in a graduated way, and we’ve used this in our design with Jacob from Presca. The material is also silky soft and smooth at touch and on the skin. The high collar is comfortable and protects my neck from the sun 🙂 . The outside of the collar is a dark blue tone, with the inside colour being a light blue and these colours contrasting each other, giving it a pleasant look. It’s also super comfortable on the bike, especially in the heat of summer, and I love the fit. Overall, the kit makes me think of a nice summer at the beach, due to the aqua colours. Designing it with Robert and Jacob was fun and I enjoyed taking the lead for Pedalnorth – after all, we women know style 🙂 .
Taken together, the Presca Pedalnorth kit design for jersey and shorts looks really modern and stylish and we love it. We also love their growing commitment to the environment and know you will too. If you’re looking for custom team or club kit, that take a look at Presca – you won’t be disappointed.
