The partnership between one of the world’s leading eyewear and helmet producers, and some of the top riders in the World Tour, began in 2016 and has been renewed for another three years. The team of Mohorič, Bilbao, and Caruso will continue to race with glasses and helmets from the Treviso brand of Rudy Project, wrapped safely and stylishly in some of the best helmets and sunglasses available.

Yes, Italian brand, Rudy Project announced recently, the renewal of its long-term collaboration with Team Bahrain Victorious as the official helmet and eyewear partner through to 2026. This year, 2024, will mark the eighth season together, providing the team with some of the most innovative products in the world of cycling. To date, Rudy Project is one of the longest-standing sponsors of the Bahraini formation, supporting them since their debut in the World Tour circuit.
Since the beginning of the collaboration, the meticulousness and attention to detail of both the brand and the team have been the driving force behind a fruitful partnership, yielding victories on one side and technological innovations on the other.

The team, making its debut in Australia at the Tour Down Under, which kicked off with the traditional “Down Under Classic” criterium on Saturday, January 13, will be equipped with new glasses and helmets, produced in the white, blue, and gold colors characterizing the team’s new, elegant livery. Time to take a closer look then.

THE GLASSES AND HELMETS

The glasses used by the Bahrain champions are the Kelion and Astral models, made with a Rilsan Clear frame, a bio-plastic derived 45% from plants grown by certified farmers in Gujarat, India.
Meticulously designed to provide performance, adaptability, and comfort, and compatible with an optical insert, the Kelion features a cylindrical and wraparound lens that offers superior protection and an unobstructed field of vision.

The Astral, equally ergonomic, is characterized by its lightness and style. Three helmets will be provided to the team, and used as appropriate to the necessary race conditions.

The Egos, designed for the hottest days: a model with an innovative internal structure, designed to improve ventilation while ensuring excellent shock absorption thanks to the special DUAL DENSITY TECHNOLOGY.

The Nytron, an aerodynamic helmet with a compact and lightweight design, utilizes a combination of air intakes and internal channels to optimise ventilation and reduce head’s heating, enhancing the rider’s performance.

Finally, we have the Nytron Pro, an evolution of the basic NYTRON model, offers an unmatched balance between safety, comfort, and performance thanks to a detailed and meticulous analysis of aerodynamics, increasing the aerodynamic efficiency of the product itself through a more “closed” shape.

Are you sitting comfortably on your bike

I find cycling technology fascinating, I really do. Not the kind of technology that we all know about, making bikes go faster and creating lighter and more aerodynamic frames; no, I like the science and thinking that goes into developing the fabrics, the clothing and the pads. Even as a young school student, I chose to study textile design rather than engineering. I like to get to the bottom of fabric technology and design – pardon the pun – and I’m fascinated by the very clever people who study bottoms in order to make our cycling so much more comfortable.

Did you know for instance that women have a greater spectrum of bottom shapes and structures than men, it’s true. Elastic Interface have researched this, partnering with the Department of Biomedical Science at the University of Padua, Italy. After developing their First Ladies specific pads, Elastic Interface listened to the feedback and wanted to improve things, and so looked towards the scientists in order to better understand female cyclists bottoms.

Comfort & performance has to match style

Coming from a family with 3 x sisters, and a wife who is also 1 of 3 sisters, I have to concede that women tend to come first in so many ways. I’m happy to admit that my elder sister was the better runner, and at home my wife is certainly the boss – so it’s not surprising that women also take the lead in the bottom stakes. All of this causes an issue for cycling brands though, and Elastic Interface recognised this. Designing chamois pads for men is reasonably straight forward in comparison to the necessary variety needed in order to cater for the variety of ladies bottoms, keeping them in the comfort which they richly deserve.

For example, men aren’t as detailed in their thinking and clothing choices as women are – I’m trying to be diplomatic guys. In short, men will simply choose any pair of reasonably expensive bib shorts and then ride in them damn hard, because that’s what you do as a guy; lathering on the chamois cream and putting aside any slight discomfort, saying that it’s simply down to a hard workout. Women on the other hand like fashion.. I know, you’re surprised 😉 – however, it’s not simply about how clothing looks. They like to ensure that their garments are well made in all aspects and that they’re getting value and yes, performance. They look at the small details, because women simply don’t want to sit uncomfortably when riding. They like to look good and feel good and to be able to perform hard, without later getting off the bike and having to sit on an ice pack. Ask yourself this: when did you last think about your own bottom when cycling and when choosing your bibs? When you bought your last pair of bibs, did you look at the chamois pad and: (1) ask if it suited your style of riding, (2) ask yourself if it was suitable for your bottom type?

Your bottom shape isn’t limitless… honestly

Here’s and interesting fact too – did you know that however many cakes you eat with your cafe stop cappuccino, your bottom remains the same size – truly, it does! Yes, I know that you might have to squash and squeeze yourself into a pair of highly compressive XL shorts if you get too carried away on cake, but that excess stuff around the back of you – it’s not your bottom. You’ll be very pleased to hear that your bottom remains small(ish), meaning that the very clever product developers at Elastic Interface only have to make their extensive selection of chamois pads in one size! That’s the really good news. Now let’s get back to women’s bottoms – in a sporting context of course! Yes, women have far more complex bottoms and accordingly, far more complex needs from their chamois pad; which is why Elastic Interface carried out their extensive scientific studies – about cycling bums! 😉

It’s time then to look at ladies bottoms in more detail, and to talk about the 3 specific chamois pads that Elastic Interface produce to ensure the comfort of the worlds female cyclists…

WP1 – Standard Protection Chamois

There’s nothing standard about women, everyone knows that. However, there had to be a line from which the rich variety of women can be assessed – or their bottoms to be more precise; which is why Elastic Interface have produced the WP1. It’s their “standard” protection pad for women, based on extensive research. It targets those women who feel the need for a more substantial and continuous support throughout the perineal area whilst cycling.

The pelvic tract area is developed to support the rotation of the pelvic bones while pedaling and paddings are skillfully placed according to anthropometrical parameters, providing the ultimate in cycling comfort protection.

WP2- A Highly Protective Pad

Some women prefer a highly protective pad, yet they may experience some numbness in the perineal area, especially when in the road position. After extensive study and research, with this solution Elastic Interface created a “pressure relief” zone by using lower density foams in the perineal area, while guaranteeing the same support and protection of always throughout the rest of the pad. These minor changes in the pad production maximise protection and comfort for this group of female cyclists. After all, there will be times when you yourself have felt “not quite right” in certain bib shorts.

Elastic Interface carried out their product research so that they could answer the necessary comfort questions for female cyclists needing that extra protection.

WP3 – For Women Sensitive to Compression

This construction of pad is intended for those women who are extremely sensitive to compression. Additional relief is delivered by using thinner and lower density foams in the genital area, minimizing pressure. In this solution, the ischiatic padding is raised and the perineal area features a medium-density padding only. The pelvic tract area is developed to support the rotation of the pelvic bones while pedaling and paddings are skillfully placed according to anthropometrical parameters. All of these particular technological develops are designed to provided the ultimate in comfort for female cyclists who are just that little bit more physiologically sensitive.

Trek-Pirelli MTB Team Announced


Pirelli is all geared up to backing Marco Trentin’s prestigious mountain bike team once again, with the announcement of an even greater commitment. No doubt as to the objective: all efforts are focused on reaching the topmost positions of the XCM and that’s not all. This year, the team also has its eye on the XCO.

Milan, Italy, 8 January 2020 – Pirelli announces the renewal of its partnership with Marco Trentin’s team. Throughout 2020, Pirelli will be co-title sponsor, while confirming its wholehearted commitment not only towards the team but to the entire world of Cross-Country mountain biking.

The TREK-PIRELLI team is born

Throughout the coming season, similarly to 2019, Michele Casagrande, Gioele De Cosmo, Damiano Ferraro, Samuele Porro and Fabian abensteiner will be riding with Pirelli Scorpion MTB tires. Just a few months from their official launch in March 2019, Pirelli Scorpion MTB tires have scored their first victories: a third place in the extremely tough Cape Epic, with Porro and Ferraro, two Italian national jerseys –one for Porro’s in the marathon race and another for De Cosmo’s Under 23 XCO – and, last but not least, two splendid medals – a European silver medal and a World bronze – also achieved by a fantastic Samuele Porro.

Pirelli’s Scorpion range currently comprises four treads specifically designed for different terrain types: H hard-packed and smooth, M for mixed terrains, S for soft, inconsistent terrains and R (rear) multi-purpose. The supporting technology behind the performance of the tires and, consequently, that of the team, is SmartGRIP Compound: a chemical formulation developed and produced by Pirelli technicians in response to the needs expressed by the team’s athletes, to ensure high resistance to punctures and an optimal grip at all times, no matter what the weather conditions, and throughout the life cycle of the tire.

Available in 29” x 2.2 and 2.4, with LITE or reinforced carcass, the Scorpion range for Cross Country racing comprises as many as 15 versions, including the colour variants of Yellow and Classic. Porro and his teammates, according to the discipline and the trail being tackled, will use both the LITE and reinforced versions for their Trek Supercaliber and Top Fuel bikes, strictly in racing yellow, true to the Pirelli tradition in terms of competition tires.

For 2020, the Trek Pirelli team has set its sights even higher: it aims at excelling in the XCM races, but also nurtures ambitions for the XCO, with the World Championship and the ever-popular World Cup.

Their plans also comprise the Olympics, with the focus on XCO, of course. Their first commitment will be the gruelling ABSA Cape Epic, scheduled to take place next 14 March.

In the words of Francesco Pietrangeli, Managing Director Pirelli Bicycle Division: “An important partnership with a team at the top of the international Cross-Country scene. As always, our collaboration with the team is aimed at exchanging technical feedback for the development of increasingly high performing tires.
