Nutrition is important for athletes, because it provides a source of energy required to perform the activity, especially intense ones. What we eat or drink impacts on our strength, training, performance and recovery, also our bodies ability to recover after exercising. Through my years of training since a young age, I’ve been trained to value nutrition and hydration as a key aspect of my planning.
Voom is a well respected but young nutrition brand, with the aim to provide a tasty, portable and stomach-friendly alternative to sports gels, with twice the energy and zero mess. This young and dynamic team have an experience of 20 years working in nutrition product development, and they’ve used this to consider the key areas of palatability, portion control, energy delivery, stomach comfort and handiness. It’s not just important how things taste and perform, but also how easy they are to carry and use on the move. The Voom team are clearly focused to make a highly functional product that is enjoyable to use, which I can definitely confirm, using it on rides, runs and gym work in Transylvania.

The product I want to talk about and to review from Voom today is the VOOM HYDRATE SMART ELECTROLYTE DRINK.
The Voom electrolyte mix aims to match what we sweat out, to replace those lost salts and to prevent cramp. A hypotonic drink with a small amount of glucose as ‘co-transport’ means faster hydration is possible when consuming both electrolytes and glucose rather than water and electrolytes or water alone. Simply drinking plain water won’t do what you need. Yes, it replaces fluid, but not the vital electrolytes. You need more than simply water, as years of competitive sport and tough training have taught me. Getting this right has always been critical for me and a drink powder has to perform.
