Santa Cruz de Tenerife to Playa de las Gaviotas and inland climb – Tenerife

We head for the north-east coast of Tenerife for this ride, with a short coastal spin, and an additional climb to Mirador hacia Taganana and a spectacular view. This scenic area is protected, allowing everyone to be able to enjoy these historic mountains.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife was the sole capital of the Canary Islands, until 1927 when a decree ordered that the capital of the Canary Islands be shared, as it remains at present. The large port here, is of great importance and is the communications hub between Europe, Africa and Americas, with cruise ships arriving from many nations.All that you need to know, is that it has ample facilities for you.

Santa Cruz is the capitol of Tenerife and a large port, with ample refreshments. This north-east coast also has lots of accommodation options too.

Character

Coastal cycling to the quiet, volcanic beach at Playa de las Gavoitas, before a steep climb into the protected mountains. Then, be careful on the descent, as you simply head for home and Santa Cruz. It’s a short ride and one for a quiet afternoon.


Route

  1. This route starts in the centre of Santa Cruz, before cycling along the coast to the volcanic and quiet beach at Playa de las Gaviotas. Once at the beach,take in the scenery.
  2. Go back to San Andres, then head from San Andres up into the mountains on the narrow and winding TF 12 road, all the way to Mirador hacia Taganana.
  3. Once at the top, take in the view, then head back down to Santa Cruz.
