INNOVATION & EXCELLENCE IN CYCLING
The science of cycling sport
There’s a real science behind the kit and equipment that cyclists use these days. From new compounds of tyres, refined carbon processes to produce lighter bikes and accessories, fabric tech, and a greater physiological understanding of feet- yes feet! All of this knowledge allows brands to develop products that not only look great, but which also give you performance perfection.
When we talk about marginal gains, we have to include the constant drive for innovation by brands such as SQ Lab from German, who look closely at the contact points on a bike and how cyclists interact with these areas. They even measure the width of hands and produce gloves of varying widths, and with the pads placed in just the right area and at just the right level of softness too. It’s a science that we’re only just getting to grips with, and it is absolutely fascinating.
We think that it’s time to dedicate a few articles to this, to give you a better understanding of the innovative work of brands and how it relates to you – the humble everyday cyclist and racer. When you’re making those all-important choices – especially with the costs involved in kitting yourself out these days – you need to know that comfort, performance, style and quality are all in balance. SQ Lab try to ensure this, and we want to find out how. This new section of Pedalnorth will bring information and advice on things like fabric technology, mechanical tech, and of course your feet, so that you know what is best for you and why. Let’s get started then.
In order to develop this, we’ll be working with people from leading brands such as SGQ Lab, 3T Bikes, DJi, , Q36.5 and others – each with their own key areas to pass on advice to you, the consumer. Take a look below and let’s follow the science together, and ride into a more comfortable future!
We’ve put together a great team of experts, to make sure that we give you the best advice and information about the latest developments and how technology in all areas can help you to maximise your cycling. Led by our own Larisa, we’ll be bringing you a series of informative articles and reviews about all aspects of cycle tech.
