Okay then, what makes Cycology jerseys different from other brands – it’s a reasonable question. In the main, cycle jerseys are much of a muchness, as the saying goes. However, once you get into the detail, that’s where you discover the Cycology differences.
The obvious one for this dynamic Australian brand is the design. Cycology have their own in-house graphic artist, Sarina and so can produce all manner of modern stylish and funky designs in a flash. Add to this recipe that Sarina is also a keen cyclist and the trademark Cycology aesthetic is borne. All too often brands produce a conveyor belt of colour and lines, with the only difference being the logo. When you wear a Cycology jersey, you’re instantly recognisable and clearly sharing the lifestyle and cycling culture of this growing global brand.
Looking across the current spring / summer men’s and ladies jerseys, six designs stand out: 3 of the mens and 3 of the ladies ranges. The vintage inspired Ciclismo, with vibrant red, banded in white, with a motivational message ‘Faster,Higher, Stronger.’ It’s a jersey that evokes memories of the classics and riders such as Merckx, Coppi and Antequil. The rear panel is emblazoned with a subtle heraldic vintage cycle motif, carrying the motto in Latin. Secondly, there’s the bright orange of the vintage styled Grimpeur jersey, again looking back at the history and culture of our sport, with the classic bold colours and banded motif, with the ‘Miles are my meditation’ logo across the back. Thirdly, every Cycology jersey collection should include a reference to the Australian connection and the ladies ‘Lucky Chain Ring’ in greys and blacks, neatly trimmed with orange, blue and purple is a classic and timeless Cycology design, drawing on Aboriginal art and symbolism of the Cycology ‘Tribal Tatoo’ but doing so by using bike components within the design instead, weaving it stylishly into this unique cycling jersey. The subtle and modern styling oozes out, yet it makes a quiet but powerful fashion statement for the cultural cyclist who wants to look super stylish.
Then, there’s another new kid on the block, in the shape of the ‘8 Days’ men’s jersey, with its splashes of colour blended against graffitied artwork, singing out relevant cultural messages for the Cycology tribe of modern cyclists, happily sharing both rides and coffee, living to ride and to chill out. Taking Sarina’s perspective on the design, she says it was influenced by “The Beatles + paint + paper = this graffitied artwork came from listening to their songs and realising they were singing about cycling! Oh yeah, we would ALL ride 8 days a week.”
Each of the referenced jerseys carries the usual Cycology high standard of materials and finishing. The fitted jersey’s use a high stretch and moisture wicking material, also having sun protection Factor 50 treated fabrics, which we think is crucial for long days in the sun. The Ciclismo and ladies Lucky Chain Ring jerseys utilise a lightweight mesh style fabric weave for the rear panels, maximising breathability and wicking on those long hot rides. Flatlock stitching throughout, together with high cut collars to keep out the chill and tough full length zippers finish things off superbly.
For the colour referenced women out there, the funky ‘Day of the Living’ jersey combines a modern design with a bright pink and form fitting fabric and a tatoo style skull design on the rear. This modern and stylish jersey allows you to be feminine whilst showing off your personality at the same time.
Finally, there’s time for the funky Cycodelic from the ladies range, a new super bright Cycodelic design with vibrant green cogs, cranks, rotors and chain rings. It’s highlighted with a mix of other bright colours that stand out against the black and the jersey fits every contour due to the race fit, keeping you looking super stylish and ready to ride.
All of the jerseys are held in place by elasticated laser cut Miti Italian (take this out as we have changed brands with new factory) gripper on hips and sleeves for seamless comfort, providing that second skin feeling which we all like. Reflective trim on the 3 rear pockets and a zipped pocket for keys and coins, shows that every little detail has been well thought out.
The sun has taken it’s time to peek out during 2019, but its definitely here now and when trimmed with the Cycology arm warmers, you can be wearing these great designs into the late autumn. All of these 6 stylish short sleeved jerseys will provide you with great style and performance options and make you look and feel like the cultured cyclist. All you need now is some bibs and socks to match – because style is not an option.

Socks are often the last thing that a cyclist thinks of, but are one of the most critical items of clothing. After all, it’s your feet and legs that do the hard work. Editors Robert and Larisa take a look at the wide variety of socks from Australian brand Cycology Gear.
In terms of cycling socks, Cycology have definitely got it covered – literally. With funky designs to match specific jersey and short combos and a full range of single colour socks, there’s something for everyone.
However, the crucial thing is always ‘how well made are they and how long will they last?’ If you’re like me, there’s nothing worse than socks that simply wriggle around all over your feet and that get holes in after only a few uses, or simply lose shape or any compression and support that they ever had. Cycling specific socks aren’t cheap, so it pays to buy a good pair… or two or three.
Well made socks provide arch and ankle support and a reasonable degree of compression. They sit neatly in place at the toe and ankle and these stylish socks from Cycology utilise a more elasticated knit for a snugger fit and for the arch support and a mesh knit in the 6” ankle cuff to keep them firmly in place. They use a flat toe seam construction for comfort and have mesh weave panels designed in, helping with moisture wicking too.
Once you’re wearing them, they really do feel like a quality sock and they retain both colour and shape after numerous washes.
The printed socks are designed specifically to match the Cycology kit designs and have even more of a compression feel to them. They’re very slightly longer (7” ankle to cuff) from the plain colour socks, but share the same quality weave construction and performance properties.
Coming in a wide variety of styles, and in patterns to match all of your cycling kit, they tick all the necessary boxes for both style and performance. In total, there are 15 great colours and designs to choose from, so make room in your sock drawer.
I’ve just had the pleasure of wearing the women’s Velosophy kit for the first time. Seeing how I’ve never worn anything by Cycology, I was curious to test the brand’s fit and comfort. The first thing I noticed was the top-to- bottom print, which struck me as very tattoo-inspired.
Upon closer inspection, I noticed all the smaller philosophical references within the print, such as “You Can’t Have Pleasure Without Some Pain”. The different messages behind the print resonated with me because I love designs that have a deeper meaning. The only problem with the smaller print is that the general impact of the design is lost from far away, as there are many different smaller elements going on. I do, however, appreciate the simplicity of the colors as I love primarily black and white kits. The pops of color are nice because they are easy to coordinate with socks/glasses/gloves, etc. – and of course, style is important.
As far as the fit goes, I was 99% happy, and only because the kit runs a tad big. If you wear a small in other brands, you may want to consider ordering an XS if you like your kits to fit snug. I find that when I wear bibs that are too loose, the chamois (despite quality and comfort) will shift around and cause irritation. I did really love the “Miti” leg grips, which helped to keep things in place and where they should be — the wider length helps eliminate the whole “sausage leg” problem many of us ladies face. I get a lot of comments and/or DM’s on Instagram from women asking questions about bib-length/general fit, and leg grippers are a huge part of the equation.
I almost always alter my bibs, by pulling the gripper up to hit the most flattering spot on my leg (never more than half way down my thigh) and from there, pull bibs up into place. The “Miti” grippers are great. They are body hugging, but forgiving enough for me to adjust and stretch ‘em into place. It’s a real plus point for Cycology, who have thought about the design and fit in detail.
Moving to the jersey then. The jersey is comfortable — and the material feels expensive, and I appreciate the combo of the stretchy front waistband and grippy back. I was pleased with little details like the reflective strips and a zipper pocket — although the pocket is only large enough for maybe a key or Chapstick.
Cycology are renowned for their designs, but the design of the Velosophy kit is not for everybody — I feel like the small top-to-bottom print is harder to pull off. However, the cut and fit is on point. Again, pay attention to the size you order online if you like your kits snug. Beyond that, I loved the kit and it performed well.
Going forward, I’m impressed and will wear it on my training rides, which is praise indeed — it’s both functional and looks different. I also really dig the inspirational messages within the print. Anything that motivates and adds meaning is worth having as part of your weekly kit rotation.
We may not get the Australian sun here in the UK, but we do have some great roads for testing cycle clothing. This design orientated jersey fro Aussie brand Cycology is a great example of performance and style at an affordable price.
The cut of this short sleeve jersey if for performance, with the various panels designed to fit well to the form; what the form looks like is down to you. However, the high quality 2 way stretch fabric is very strong and very well stitched. There’s a heavier weave of cloth at the front, to keep cool winds at bay, and at the back Cycology have used a lighter mesh style cloth, to aid breathability in these hard working areas. The material is also treated to protect from the sun, up to factor 50. Whilst this is not too much of an issue here in Yorkshire, it’s a necessary addition for the cyclist.
Cycology have used Miti Italian gripper fabric for the sleeves and hem, helping to keep things in place, and it also avoids that pet hate of a jersey failing to sit flat at the hem. The full length zipper is a good quality, and they’ve also added a good size zip pocket to the rear too – an often missed point by many brands, but a very useful one. The three other pockets are deep and strong, and will carry all you need without sagging.
How does the jersey perform … very well indeed. It’s well cut and fitted and doesn’t feel uncomfortable or restrictive. It keeps the cool winds off, and wicks away moisture well, whilst allowing the body to breathe.
The collar is a high cut, and it’s on a par with it’s competitors and does the job well. Riding out on long day rides, and on short speedier rides the jersey has done the job well.
Cycology designs are definitely unique, and this cool blue statement is subtle enough to make just the right impact. If miles are your own mediation, then take a look at Cycology and treat yourself.
Cycology are real cyclists – end of… no point saying otherwise; we’ve known these guys for some time and their cycling clothing displays so many critical aspects that only a cyclist would think about.
Their ‘Obsession ’ shorts are a good example of the cycling antecedents of this Aussie brand. Multiple panels made of varying fabric styles and weights, to ensure that the golden trilogy is achieved: comfort, fit, and usage.
Dealing with each of these areas: the pad is made especially for Cycology, and as you’d expect, it has their own unique branding within the design. It’s layered in the right areas, with thickness based on need, meaning you don’t look like you’re wearing a nappy. It’s also comfortable from medium to long rides, with a few hills thrown in too, wicking away the obvious sweat. The multi panel body contour design is cut to be close fitting, with strong compression fabrics used, clinging to your legs to keep you stylish and sleek. Stitching is excellent and built nicely into the design too.
In terms of usage, the wide Italian ‘Miti’ elasticated material grippers at the legs hold things in place and add a bit to the compression benefits. The bibs are reasonably breathable, with light mesh style lycra in key areas, and a good quality minimal mesh upper. The material beads rain well, and also dries out quickly once the storm has passed. Albeit designed in Australia, they’re also quite warm, especially when matched with leg warmers.
The colour and styling is minimal, with just light touch of blue on the gripper, meaning that whilst these are a match for the ‘Miles are my Meditation‘ jersey, they’re also reasonably generic for other jerseys – always a bonus.; then of course, some Cycology branding on the back of the bibs too. You’ll always look stylish in Cycology, making a personal statement at the same time; but cycle clothing has to have more to it than great design. These bibs do, and Cycology are now showing that the new kid on the block has grown up and learnt along the way.
