Who could have imagined that a cycling trainer could simulate cycling so amazingly close to reality? Nowadays, technology has reached a very advanced level, and brands like Elite from Italy are leading the way. For example, look at the top of the range rollers that Elite have invented, fully interactive and is truly something amazing – I refer to “Nero interactive rollers”.

Nero Interactive Rollers are better than the regular rollers for many reasons. What makes it special and better than the rest, is that this roller automatically adjusts its resistance depending on the type of training you do, thanks to Quick Motion innovation and Arion Digital Smart B + interactivity.It simulates slopes up to 7%. Nero uses both ANT + and Bluetooth wireless to immediately send all data to programs, applications and software, including Zwift and RGT – yes, on rollers! Its resistance will automatically change simulating the actual gradients of slope you’d find in the real course. It’s amazing! Best of all, riding rollers are already the closest type of trainer to riding on roads, and now they’re fully interactive.

The advantage of the Elite Nero rollers is as mentioned, its ability to be compatible with most available software and Apps. It offers cyclists a wide range of options from which to choose different training sessions. Elite suggests the in-house My E-Training application too, which includes a free 12-month subscription. It uses a variety of functions that can meet all the requirements and expectations of cyclists being whether beginners or experts. We’ll be taking a detailed look at this next month.

With the My E-Training application and software, you can create training simulation programs. Real courses, GPS courses, level training, data analysis and many ‘Share’ options are just a few of the features that the app offers to all cyclists owning an Elite home trainer or rollers, who seek to get the most out of their cycling workouts. We’ve been using the app for months now and it’s a firm favourite with the Pedalnorth team.

It’s so easy to create a new training program with the new graphic user interface, and you can perfectly replicate outdoor training and create customized workouts. The mapping element is really super, as you can quickly map out rides all over the world and then ride them interactive on the Nero. You can use them on computer / laptop and mobile devices too. Choose the type of training program you want to do and start pedaling! You’ll also be able to set many different training programs. Let’s talk a little more about the elements of ‘My E-Training’ and the Nero rollers.

Maps Courses

Google Maps lets you create personalized courses from anywhere in the world and match the pedal resistance based on the altimetry to that you would experience on the real course. Also, Maps can be displayed in many ways, for example: simple map, satellite view, elevation mode, Google Maps can be activated while riding and displays the on-screen course and rider’s position.

It’s also possible to create new routes from your favorite rides and to check for updated course data.

RealVideo & My Real Video (being re-developed to update)

You can train on the most beautiful courses and roads, and relive the world’s most exciting cycling races with Elite’s ‘RealVideo’. Purchase the routes in-app and then download your favorite and enjoy them every time you want.

There are more than 70 RealVideos, and then there’s the ‘My E-Training’ element, with hundreds of rides, ideal to simulate a real and engaging workout on home trainers or rollers. Imagine pedaling on your trainer your favorite ride that you or a friend have filmed with a smartphone. And, if you have run out of the ideas and paths, you can freely choose all the other routes and races filmed by other cyclists like you from all over the world.

Your own outdoor rides can be shared to everyone, that means other users will have full access to rides as much as you’ll be able to enjoy their rides! Note however, Elite are currently looking at updating and developing the ‘My Real Video’ programme.

You can experience and relive the most beautiful cycling routes in the world – from the popular routes in the Unites States to rides in Madagascar or Greenland. These are just a few of the locations in which riders like you have registered and uploaded their rides. Now you ride them too!

Rollers come in all kinds of iterations and at a variety of budgets. However, what makes the Nero stand out is it’s interactivity and realism, giving you the pain of climbs and the joy of descents, all with the road visible on the screen in front of you. With autumn on the horizon, I’m very happy that I’ve got my Elite Interactive Nero waiting for some realistic indoor riding – I just need to create an interactive coffee and cake stop 😉
