INDOOR CYCLING – NOT HIBERNATING
Elite Indoor Cycling
It’s cold and icy outside and snow is also forecast. That kind of ice that kids skate across the pavements smiling, whilst everyone else falls over in confused chaos. The roads are obviously slippery, as everywhere glistens with the beautiful frosty crystals – ironic, that such beauty can hold such a mix of fear and fun. There’ll be no riding outside today unless you’re riding a mountain bike on snowy trails, where the tyres can grip on the freshly fallen snow. The studio calls me again, as I’m thankful for the Elite trainers that I have tucked away and ready to ride.
So far this winter they’ve saved the day many times, ensuring that by the time the thaw comes and the sun finally beams down its warmth again, I’ll be ready and waiting for those hills. I love the mountains, the wide sweeping valleys with green meadows and ribbons of rivers. I love riding in the winter, where the crisp air bites at the skin and reminds you that you’re alive. I’m drawn to the outdoors, but today i decide that it will be me and the Elite Suito indoors and a great interactive route from the Elite “My E-Training” app – hills or valley, I don’t yet know – but I’ll be warm and dry – maybe the roads tomorrow, who knows.
Two days ago i used the Elite “My E-Training “ app to set up a route which climbs from historic Sibiu in Transylvania, before taking in the classic climb to Paltinis in the Carpathian Mountains. It’s a regular feature on the annual Tour of Sibiu Bike race, testing some of the best UCI Continental riders and a few invited World Tour level teams. The climb is 35 km from the historic centre, climbing steadily until it reaches the winding mountain road, before it then rises upwards in defiance. Transylvania is filled with such epic climbs, like the fabled Transgarafasan Road in the image with Larisa below.
Thankfully, I have several Elite water bottles lined up in the warmth of my bike studio, alongside boxes of nutrients bars and Spotify providing music. The Elite Suito also simulates the slopes for me, meaning that I can enjoy the pain of pedal dancing on the steeper sections, taking me into another place – taking me to the climbs of Transylvania – thank you Elite 🙂
