Into 2022 with the Elite Tuo Interactive Trainer
by Robert Thorpe,Executive Editor
In a world filled with indoor interactive cycling trainers, many people will be surprised to see that the good old ‘wheel on’ trainer, or ‘turbo trainer’ as it was once familiarly known, still has a place. Indeed, the Tuo Interactive Wheel On trainer by Italian brand Elite, is more than capable of holding its own, and even standing out, despite the crowded space that interactive trainers know occupy.
This ultra chic piece of engineered art, not only performs superbly, but it also looks stylish in any environment at home. For those seeking something different from the usual static trainer, and wanting a device that folds away easily and is easy to transport – welcome to the Tuo. We’ve been testing it here at Pedalnorth for over a year now, and it’s proved itself to be a very capable indoor interactive unit, that works well in combination with your other training for fitness and cycling.
One great asset of the Tuo is its ability to take a wide variety of wheel sizes, and the fact that once fastened in, there’s nothing else to think about… except pedalling. It’s also compatible with Zwift, RGT and others, and we’ve really enjoyed using it on the Elite ‘My E-Training’ app, where it’s easily connected to your own mapped routes or the interactive videos on ‘My Real Video.’ With the poor weather and continuing pandemic, it’s been a real bonus to have this on test here in the U.K.. And, in line with the hilly terrain in the nearby Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Tuo has a slop simulation of 10%, more than adequately coping with the average route gpx.
The Tuo is also surprisingly quiet for what it is, which the wheel coming into friction with the unit. And, in the main, we’ve found it not too bad at all with normal road tyre degradation. We understand that many riders won’t have spare wheels and hard wearing trainer tyres, so like you, we’ve been simply fixing the usual bike wheels into the Tuo (mainly Schwalbe One & Pirelli P Zero). For a wheel on trainer, it’s reasonably quiet too, and after a year of use, still looks and performs as it dit over 12 months ago. Combining this with general fitness training in your home gym is easy, as it folds to next to nothing. And, where you don’t want to be constantly taking your wheel off, the Tou has proved itself to be perfect.
The interactivity, like all of Elite’s interactive range of trainers, collects data for power, speed and cadence, which is shown on the relevant app screen once paired, giving you all that you need to improve your cycling performance. Yes, it’s definitely time to Tuo, as we’ve loved testing this stylish and high performance wheel on interactive trainer from Elite. If your budget won’t stretch to one of the more expensive static trainers, or space and portability is a factor, then get yourself a piece of Italian style – the Elite Tuo.
