Selle Italia SLR Boost Lady Superflow
by Larisa Chinces
Saddles are important, especially to me. I don’t like it when I have to use a strange bike and the saddle is uncomfortable. I want to be comfortable on my bike, so that I can give my best performance. That means not worrying about being on a bad saddle. My bum and its comfort is important to me – I love cycling, but I do not love being uncomfortable!
Selle Italia know lots about saddles – probably more than anyone else (with its more than 120 years of history). They have so many choices, for bums of all shapes and sizes. I won’t go into detail… 😉 but I love racing, riding all day into the mountains, so I want to be comfortably seated!
The first thing that you notice about the Selle Italia SLR Boost Lady Superflow is that it is so light. It looks so well made and I instinctively felt positive about it. It weighs only 198g for the small and 206g for the large, meaning that it won’t add unnecessary weight to your race bike. Next, the well designed Superflow cut-out in the centre of the saddle, which was studied by Selle Italia to allow you release pressure from the central area when pedalling. It’s a unique and unmatched design element that really works.
Due to winter snows and Covid, I’ve tested it mainly on my 2 indoor trainers so far; the Elite Nero interactive rollers and the Elite Direto XR, both of which simulate slopes and hard riding. My thoughts – it feels great and super comfortable, and when I have managed to ride outside, it feels equally comfortable.
Unlike the iconic flat Flite saddle, this SLR model has a neutral line, meaning that with its well thought it length and strong nose area, it allows me to easily move around on the saddle and to remain comfortable. I notice this on the rollers especially, where it maintains support and comfort during a hard training session. It is hard wearing too, with a quality covering. There are 2 available widths to give you options – the small (130mm) and the large (145mm). The saddle length remains the same at 248mm in length. Keeping the weight down are the TI316 7mm diameter titanium stabilised steel rails.
Selle Italia have used their Fibra-Tek covering and it is really tough, even when used constantly on the pressures of indoor training. It still looks and feels like new. The rails are as stated, made from very light titanium stabilised steel and very strong, meaning that I can confidently move around on the saddle as I work. I train hard and ride hard in the hills, so I need a tough saddle. The Selle Italia SLR Boost Lady Superflow fits my style of riding… and my bum too 😉 meaning that I can stay comfortable and confident on my rides. I’d like to add that I have the small saddle too!
Price wise, this is a great value for money, high end saddle. How much value do you put on your comfort – I value this highly, and this is a comfortable performance saddle from Selle Italia. Hopefully as spring comes and Covid eases, I will ride outside more. So far though, this is a saddle that is well designed, well engineered, delivers great performance and looks cool too – and as I’m a stylish woman, this last point is important to me – I’m a lady, remember! 😉
