A journey on 2 wheels

with Kristi Kuldkepp

Cycling isn’t just an activity for me – sport in general, has always been a part of who I am. Having not started cycling until I was 31, I’ve been lucky enough to race professionally, and to win a Gran Fondo European Championship, too. Over the years that I have been cycling – not only at my home in Estonia, but also in Europe and Belgium in particular –  I’ve witnessed the beginning of changes for women’s cycling, which still has a long way to go. I’ve raced with and met some truly inspiring individuals, and I get to travel to race, sharing my cycling life with friends and others. Women’scycling is developing all the time, and I get to witness this first-hand, riding as a member of the women’s pro peloton.

Yes, it’s fair to say that I’m still on an exciting 2 wheeled journey – which I’m also lucky enough to be able to share with, here on the Pedalnorth website.

As a guest blogger, I’ll be writing and sharing my thoughts about cycling, women’s cycle racing and the emotions that cycling brings to me. With autumn and winter here, I’ll also be writing about my cyclocross adventures in the mudfest of this epic sport! Cycling isn’t simply an activity – it’s a way of life, and how we can challenge ourselves to be our best version.

Hopefully, I can inspire you on your own cycling journey. We can’t necessarily change the world – but we can ride bikes!

Finding inspiration within cycling

The cycling industry is always talking about inspiration, yet in so many different ways. WE here about great wattage power and great bikes and how people look. However, it's all just bullshit really. When we press pause and think about it, inspiration comes in so many seemingly ordinary ways; alongside of course, some truly inspiring indivuals who ride their bikes quietly challenging themselves.

My cycling story – Kristi Kuldkepp

I haven't always been a cyclist—no, not before the age of 31. Yes, I’ve spent most of my life in the saddle, but over the years, that saddle has simply become narrower!

Women’s cycling – levelling the road to success

It was only in recent years that the UCI took steps to develop women’s cycling progression, through a new tiered system: Continental, Pro and World Tour level team structure. The Belgium based Baloise Minimax WB Ladies team are just one example of how women's cycling is finally adapting to the greater support, as they drive forward into the UCI Continental ranks, developing future members of the women's pro peloton.
